In the past decade, optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) has entered field of plasmonics in form surface-confined vortices, generating vast interest. Here we give an overview field, starting with pioneering analytic and experimental investigations plasmonic OAM. We describe advances leading to study suboptical cycle dynamics time-resolved experiments investigation light–matter interactions through mixing circularly polarized light vortices. how additional degrees freedom can be controlled metasurfaces other design techniques complete spatial temporal modularization review maturing applications such as tweezers for selective trapping rotation microparticles broadband multiplexing beams high-capacity communications.
